  • Jakarta floods

    I’m pissed.
I can’t believe it’s even worse. Well obviously nothing was done since the last flood.
What’s worse, I can’t believe we’re still using only one flood gate built during dutch colonial times.. What close to 40 years of independent rule and we can’t build another flood canal?
Jebus S Christ. How much corruption can this government dole out?
I remember the flood we had in my neighborhood when I was growing up, and how all the crocodiles in a nearby park escaped. Well back then when the park was there along with a reservoir we had to evacuate as the water was 5+ feet deep. Now there’s a gigantic mall built on the park/reservoir with nothing done to catch floodwater. This happens throughout the city. More luxury condos, malls built without regard to enviromental concerns. It pisses me off. How can the government let people live like this? It’s not just the poor people affected, and yet everyone turns a blind eye, or just accepts the cruel fate. The governor was reelected last time despite his piss-poor performance at previous floods.

Of course I myself am to blame as well since I don’t vote. Sometimes I wish I knew what to do to make a difference.
