GGRD CRASHES BROOKLYN - SEASON OPENING DATES ANNOUNCED!
Finally!! Gotham Girls Roller Derby has secured a location for our first two games
and tickets are on sale now! We are punchy with excitement and can't wait to get on
the track! Come join us for our long-awaited season opener!
SATURDAY, MAY 6th:
BRONX GRIDLOCK vs. MANHATTAN MAYHEM
Doors open: 7:30pm
GGRD's new team -- the Bronx Gridlock -- is out to make history this year, but
Manhattan’s favorite ladies from the cell block aren't going to take any crap from
the new kids. This historic season opener is going to be brutal. Get your butt there
and witness the action yourself!
FRIDAY, JUNE 2nd:
QUEENS OF PAIN vs. BROOKLYN BOMBSHELLS
Doors open: 7:30pm
The salty Brooklyn ladies have dropped anchor and their cannons are packed to fight
the Queens of Pain -- 2005's Undefeated Season Champions. Your favorite sailor-ettes
are stacked with ammo, but the Queens girls are confident in their power to
dominate. Better bring your
white flag to surrender - or your riding crop for the
opposite. Whatever.
Both games will be held at:
The Schwartz Athletic Center
Long Island University, Brooklyn Campus
@ the corner of Flatbush and DeKalb
B/M/Q/R @ DeKalb Ave or 2/3/4/5 to Nevins St.
The Schwartz Center is a former vaudeville era movie palace at the corner of
Flatbush and DeKalb. It opened in 1928 as the Brooklyn Paramount Theater, and for
34 years, the Paramount hosted the stars of the stage and silver screen, both on
celluloid and in the flesh. It’s a truly eclectic sporting venue, completely
befitting derby.
Advance tickets ($12.50) and VIP tickets ($25) available online:

Regular
tickets: $15 available @ the door
Perks for the night include:
- Miss Saturn - Enjoy a stellar show from this cosmic hula hoop queen!
- DJ Neil McCoy - Our good friend and excellent spin master will delight!
- Bleachers - No, it's not a band - we have actual seats!! You asked for it, and now
we can provide your bottom a little more comfort. You can catch a bird's eye view of
the derby carnage! But don't worry, if you want, you'll still be able to set your
butt down on the rink and catch another view of the carnage -- in your lap!
- 36 New Skaters - GGRD added a bucket of awesome new skaters to this season's
ranks. This new group of girls is sure to rip it up on the track this season, and
steal your heart in the process.
- New Gridlock Merch - this new team will sweep you off your feet and onto the
sidewalk. Slap on a Bronx shirt and they'll take you wherever you want, baby.
WHY ONLY 2 DATES SO FAR??
We may have a place to crash for our first few games, but we are still hunting for a
regular practice and bouting location, along with the search for sponsors to help
bring you more derby action.
In order to skate in the LIU-Brooklyn venue, GGRD had to spring for a portable
protective floor to cover LIU's existing fancy basketball court surface. This
required a *huge* chunk of change (many thousands of dollars). If you know of a
business or individual who would be interested in sponsoring sections of the floor,
please let us know. And if you know of a location that has a large, flat floor, we
are interested! Contact us at (646) 405-9803, or visit our website for details on
how
you can help.
God Save the Derby!
